Fact or Fake? YOU be the judge!
Evaluating information using the C.R.A.A.P. Test
With so much information readily available to us, across a wide range of resources, finding information on your Inquiry topic is often the easiest part of the research process.
What can be more difficult is sorting out the most relevant and reliable information from the less useful, irrelevant, or inaccurate information. Also "fake news" or misinformation is becoming an increasing problem. This is when false or misleading information is deliberately created and shared with the intention of deceiving people. You can find out more about "fake news" from Netsafe, and you can even take their quiz to test your fake news knowledge at Yournewsbulletin.co.nz
So how can you tell what is fact and what is fake? This is where the CRAAP Test comes in!
The CRAAP TEST (devised by librarians at California State University) gives us a checklist of criteria that can help you evaluate information you have found.
CRAAP is an acronym that stands for:
C = Currency
R = Relevancy
A = Authority
A = Accuracy
P= Purpose
